1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, smartphone, or other internet-enabled device) by websites you visit. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, operate more efficiently, provide a better user experience, and supply reporting information to website operators.

Cookies are stored in your browser and allow a website or a third party to recognize you on subsequent visits. They contain information such as your preferences, session identifiers, and other data necessary for website functionality.

First-party cookies are set by ToolByte (toolbyte.duodev.in) directly and are used for our core functionality. Third-party cookies are set by external services we integrate (e.g., Google Analytics, Google AdSense) and are governed by their respective privacy policies.

2. Types of Cookies We Use

Essential Cookies (Strictly Necessary): These cookies are required for ToolByte to function properly. They enable core features such as authentication, session management, and security protections. These cookies cannot be disabled without significantly affecting your ability to use the Service.

• toolbyte_session - Manages your active session with the server, enabling page-to-page navigation and maintaining your login state (Session)
• XSRF-TOKEN - Protects against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks by validating that form submissions originate from our website (Session)
• remember_web_* - Keeps you logged in across browser sessions when you select "Remember Me" during login (5 years or until logout)

Functionality Cookies: These cookies enable enhanced features and personalization. They remember your preferences so you don't have to re-enter them each time you visit.

• darkmode / theme - Stores your theme preference (light mode or dark mode) (Persistent until cleared)
• locale - Remembers your preferred language setting (Persistent until cleared)

Analytics Cookies: These cookies help us understand how visitors use ToolByte by collecting anonymous, aggregated information.

• _ga (Google Analytics) - Distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated identifier (2 years)
• _ga_* (Google Analytics) - Maintains session state across page views (2 years)
• _gid (Google Analytics) - Distinguishes unique users for analytics purposes (24 hours)
• _gat (Google Analytics) - Throttles the request rate to Google Analytics (1 minute)

Advertising Cookies: These cookies are used to deliver advertisements that are relevant to you and your interests.

• __gads (Google AdSense) - Serves targeted advertisements based on browsing behavior (13 months)
• __gpi (Google AdSense) - Stores ad personalization preferences (13 months)
• NID (Google) - Stores preferences and other information (6 months)
• CONSENT (Google) - Tracks user consent state for Google services (2 years)
• 1P_JAR (Google) - Gathers website statistics and tracks conversion rates (1 month)

3. Third-Party Cookies

ToolByte integrates with the following third-party services that may set their own cookies:

Google Analytics: Uses cookies to collect anonymous information about how visitors use our website. For more information, see Google Analytics Cookie Usage (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/cookie-usage), Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy), and the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

Google AdSense: Uses cookies to serve advertisements and measure their effectiveness. For more information, see Google Advertising Policies (https://support.google.com/adspolicies), Google Ad Personalization Settings (https://adssettings.google.com/), and How Google Uses Cookies in Advertising (https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads).

We do not control these third-party cookies. We encourage you to review their respective policies.

4. Local Storage and Similar Technologies

In addition to cookies, ToolByte uses the following browser storage technologies:

Local Storage:
• Theme/dark mode preference - Stores your UI theme preference (light/dark mode) for faster rendering on page load (Until manually cleared or changed)
• Temporary tool data - Stores tool input/output data temporarily during your active session to prevent data loss on page refresh (Until browser tab closes or page refresh)

Session Storage:
• Tool state data - Maintains the current state of tool inputs and configurations within a single browsing session (Until browser tab closes)

Key Differences:
• Cookies are sent with every HTTP request to the server
• Local Storage data persists after the browser is closed and is not sent to the server
• Session Storage data is cleared when the browser tab is closed and is not sent to the server

5. Managing and Controlling Cookies

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies (except essential cookies, which are required for the Service to function).

Browser Settings: You can manage cookies through your browser settings:
• Google Chrome: Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Cookies and other site data
• Mozilla Firefox: Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Cookies and Site Data
• Apple Safari: Preferences -> Privacy -> Manage Website Data
• Microsoft Edge: Settings -> Cookies and site permissions -> Manage and delete cookies

Google Analytics Opt-Out: You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

Google Ad Personalization: You can control how Google uses your data for ad personalization at Google Ad Settings (https://adssettings.google.com/).

Cookie Consent: When you first visit ToolByte, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner that allows you to accept or customize your cookie preferences.

6. Impact of Disabling Cookies

If you choose to disable or block certain cookies, please be aware of the following potential impacts:

• Essential Cookies Disabled: You will be unable to log in, and core functionality such as session management and CSRF protection will not work. The Service may not function at all.
• Functionality Cookies Disabled: Your preferences (theme, language) will not be saved. You will need to reconfigure them on each visit.
• Analytics Cookies Disabled: No impact on your experience. However, we will not be able to understand usage patterns to improve the Service.
• Advertising Cookies Disabled: You may still see advertisements, but they will be generic and not tailored to your interests.

7. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites requesting that your browsing activity not be tracked.

Currently, there is no universal standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. ToolByte does not currently respond to DNT signals. However, you can manage tracking through the cookie controls described in the Managing Cookies section.
